A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in Kyiv on Monday, the IMF Resident Representative Office in Ukraine has told Interfax-Ukraine, quoting IMF Resident Representative Max Alier.
“The IMF mission arrived in Ukraine today. The goal of the mission
is to hold discussions within the third review of the program on the
Stand-By agreement. The first stage of the mission will focus on the
discussion of technical issues. Talks will start after these
discussions, starting from October 14, when Mrs. [IMF Mission Chief in
Ukraine Ceyla] Pazarbasioglu will join the mission in Kyiv,” he said.
As reported, the IMF last year decided to disburse about $17 billion
under the Stand-By Arrangement. Since then, Ukraine has already
received three tranches worth almost $11 billion. The fourth tranche
worth $3.8 billion is scheduled to be granted in November. However, a
number of experts doubt it will be allocated, as Kyiv has failed to
meet some of the promises it made to the IMF.
Ukraine, in particular, should have raised gas prices for households
by 20% as of September 1, and for heat suppliers as of October 1.
However, neither of these actions have been taken.
