Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Ukraine Ake Peterson has said it is important to hold a public discussion of the draft code of criminal procedure in Ukraine and to pass it without delay.
Peterson said this in a statement published on Friday, the Ukrainian Justice Ministry’s press service reported.
The statement says that the new criminal procedure code should be
passed to meet the obligations Ukraine assumed when joining the Council
of Europe.
The Council of Europe supported the development of the draft code of
criminal procedures, conducted its examination and drew positive
conclusions, Peterson said.
On October 14, 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to put the
draft code of criminal procedures up for public discussion. The draft
code’s text has been published on the Justice Ministry’s Web site.
