Port Caucasus (Krasnodar Territory), Russia - The passenger flow on the Kerch ferriage increased fourfold in 2014 after the joining of Crimea to Russia, reaching 2.8 million passengers, Igor Titov, general director of the autonomous non-commercial organization United Transport Directorate, said at a meeting in the port Caucasus on Jan. 10.

“In 2014, the passenger flow on the ferriage reached 2.8 million people and 700,000 vehicles, which is 4.5 times more than it was in 2013,” he said.

The flow of passengers and road vehicles is expected to double in 2015, he said.

Titov said the capacity of the ferriage is expected to increase to 50,000 people a day in 2015 from 13,000 people in 2013.

Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, for his part, said there are plans to increase cargo transportation to Crimea. “Cargo transportation will double in 2015. New ferries will be purchased and new cargo lines will be opened for that,” Sokolov said.
