You're reading: Kinakh: Pension reform should not be started by increasing retirement age

MP from the Regions Party and Head of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (ULIE) Anatoliy Kinakh has said that pension reform should not start with a review of the retirement age.

"I wouldn’t start pension reform with [changing] the retirement age. I’m sure corrections have to be made, [and] this means that pension reform has to be comprehensive, taking into account all areas, but this will take more than a year to do," he said on Ukrainian television’s Channel 5 on Monday.

"The retirement age is a part of the problem, and the government, unfortunately, is going about it the wrong way," Kinakh said.

"Ask anyone on the street what pension reform in Ukraine is all about, and, unfortunately, the answer will be this: An increase in the retirement age for women. But that’s wrong."
