NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy continues talks with Russia's gas giant OAO Gazprom on terms of natural gas purchases and is ready to start buying gas in the third quarter at prices that would be lower than the price of gas imported from Europe, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev said.

“Dialogue about this is now under way. It is under way. Naftogaz plans to resume gas imports in the third quarter – we’ve got a month ahead,” he told TV Channel 5 on June 6 evening.

“It would be right to buy gas from the east direction from the view point of minimizing consumers’ expenses and simply as sound judgment if Gazprom agrees to temporarily amend the existing contract, in this certain case, if the price is lower than the one have from the European direction,” he said.

The price is not disclosed, but it will be market-oriented, he said.
