You're reading: Kostiantyn Olshansky ship heading for Libya to evacuate Ukrainians

The Kostiantyn Olshansky, a large amphibious landing ship, that has left for Libya to evacuate Ukrainians, has successfully passed the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits and is sailing in the Aegean Sea, the press service of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry reported on March 25.

The ship is expected to arrive on schedule in the central Mediterranean to carry out evacuations.

The Kostiantyn Olshansky on the night of March 22-23 left Sevastopol for Libya to evacuate Ukrainians. The ship is capable of carrying 500 people.

Meanwhile, according to the Foreign Ministry, only 20 Ukrainians have asked the country’s diplomatic mission in Libya for help to return home. Kyiv proposed that all foreign citizens who whish could be evacuated from Livy aboard the Ukrainian warship.

The vessel is expected to stay in Libyan territorial waters and at sea ports from March 27 through April 19.
