Ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (1994-2004) has described Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych as a worthy presidential candidate and said he is planning to vote for him.
“Yanukovych proved himself during his premiership and he had his
entourage – they were managers. I’m quite sure that Yanukovych will
continue the policy of strategic partnership with Russia – there’s no
other option,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday,
during a video linkup with the participation of journalists from Kyiv,
Moscow and Chisinau.
“I think that he is a worthy candidate for Ukraine at the current stage,” he said.
He also said that parliamentary elections should be held after
presidential elections, as, in his opinion, the Verkhovna Rada
practically doesn’t exist.”
“I’ll vote for Yanukovych in the second round, because he has a professional team,” Kuchma said.
