The foreign ministries of Ukraine and Turkmenistan signed a protocol on cooperation along after talks in Ashgabat on Tuesday, an Interfax-Ukraine reporter has said.
In addition, the agriculture ministries of Ukraine and Turkmenistan
signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of testing and
protecting sorts of plants.
The two countries’ chambers of commerce and industry signed an
agreement on creating a business council, while Kyiv National Transport
University and the Turkmen State Institute of Transport and
Communications (based in Ashgabat) signed a cooperation agreement.
The presidents of the two countries also signed a joint statement.
Yuschenko said after the signing ceremony that relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan were “developing very dynamically.”
“We have dozens of sectors and projects in which we have mutual interests,” he said.
He also praised trade relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan. He
said that the trade between the two countries was estimated at $5-6
billion.
Yuschenko said that 24 Ukrainian enterprises had been implementing over hundred projects in Turkmenistan.
“It’s very important to us that these relations are developing,” he said.
Yuschenko also said that cooperation in the sphere of aircraft
building, engineering and space exploration had been discussed at the
talks.
Yuschenko said that cooperation in the field of education was of
great importance in relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan. He said
that around 3,000 students from Turkmenistan currently study in Ukraine.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, in turn, described bilateral relations as promising.
“We see prospects in the energy sector and in the field of engineering,” he said.
