Kyiv has officially requested the European Commission formulate its official position on a plan to form an international consortium to control the Ukrainian gas transportation system, Deputy Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Yeliseyev said.
“The Ukrainian side has officially requested that the European Commission state its official position on this issue,” Yeliseyev said in an interview with Interfax on Thursday.
Ukraine is also asking the European Commission to inform it clearly on who in the European Commission has the right to voice its official position, he said.
The head of the European Commission mission in Moscow, Marc Franco, earlier said that the European Commission deems the idea of forming an international consortium to control Ukraine’s transit gas pipeline system expedient.
The European Commission can only welcome any decision and any formula that would help resolve the current problems, Franco told Russian reporters on Thursday.
