Kyiv City Administration intends to reduce the locations for outdoor advertising.

According to the Kyiv City Administration’s website, officials plan to reduce the number of outdoor advertising billboards to 2,000 units from the current 3,500 units.

Some 700 billboards in downtown Kyiv have been erected illegally.

"We will only leave those billboards whose owners have licenses and make regular payments to city budget," Olexandr Puzanov, Kyiv City Administration deputy head, said.

“No European capital has such an amount of advertising in the streets,” he said, adding that city authorities want to standardize the sizes of the advertising fixtures.

According to Puzanov, the billboard’s size for downtown must not exceed 8 square meters, in order not to shield front panes of historical buildings.

“Advertising must decorate a city, but not close its face,” he said.
