Kyiv wants Moscow to participate in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transit system, Ukrainian Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn has said.

“I think it is currently more profitable for Russia to invest in the
modernization of Ukraine’s gas transportation system in order to ensure
that its gas is pumped across Ukraine to other countries, rather than
to invest a greater amount of funds in the construction of new gas
pipelines with doubtful [gas] pumping prospects and doubtful political
prospects of where they [the pipelines] run through,” he told Interfax.

Danylyshyn said that the sides had good conditions in the question of transporting Russian gas across Ukraine.

“Russia is our strategic trade partner, and consequently, its role
in the modernization of the [Ukrainian] gas transportation system
should be a key one, with certain prospects,” he said.
