You're reading: Kyiv City Council approves 2016 budget

Lawmakers of the Kyiv City Council at a plenary session on Tuesday approved the city's budget for 2016.

A total of 76 lawmakers supported the decision, and 19 lawmakers opposed it.

Head of the permanent commission for budget and social and economic development of the Kyiv City Council Andriy Strannikov said that the draft 2016 budget of Kyiv foresees Hr 27.136 billion of revenue and Hr 25.638 billion of expenses.

He said that some funds from the surplus of around Hr 1.5 billion will be sent to pay a part of Kyiv’s internal debt accumulated for the previous years.

According to the draft 2016 budget of Kyiv, financing of education is planned at Hr 6.363 billion. Some Hr 5.038 billion and Hr 5.029 billion will be provided for healthcare and social protection of citizens.

The budget foresees the provision of over Hr 9.6 billion of subventions from the national budget, including Hr 3.032 billion for healthcare, Hr 2.288 billion for monetary aid to budget-funded organizations, Hr 2.1 billion for education and Hr 1.668 billion to pay subsidies for utilities services.

Strannikov said that the budget’s expenses on payment of salaries to budget-funded organizations will grow by 18 percent next year compared to 2015.

Some Hr 614.979 million will be provided for the implementation of local programs in 2016. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that now 18 targeted programs are being implemented in Kyiv, and 16 programs are being designed. They will be approved in Q1 2016.
