Efforts to clean up Kyiv before the 2012 European soccer championship include beautifying the embankments of the Dnipro river flowing through the capital, Kyiv officials announced on Jan. 11.
Serhiy Sadovoy, chief of the Kyiv City Administration’s construction bureau, said structures along the river embankment are being dismantled and hauled away to storage. He said city workers are also being used to collect garbage and improve the appearance of pedestrian walkways running parallel to the river.
