Leaders of the protests against the new tax code said on Jan. 14 that police have arrested Roman Fedchuk, who, according to their information, was picked up by police in the wee hours on Jan. 13.
Oleksandr Danylyuk, who plans to picket the Presidential Administration on Jan. 14 and Jan. 17 to protest police harrassment of government critics, said Fedchuk sent Gazeta Po-Kyivskiya text message about his incarceration. Fedchuk was released after questioning by police and promising investigators that he will not leave Kyiv.
The Jan. 14 picket is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Bankova St. in front of the Presidential Administration.
Fedchuk’s arrest coincided with police raids on vendors at two Kyiv outdoor markets on Jan. 12-13.
Oleh Akhtyrskiy was the first tax code protester to be arrested in Kyiv on Dec. 30. He is accused of damaging tiles on Independence Square, where protesters against a new tax code pitched tents on the 6th anniversary of the 2004 Orange Revolution.
