Kyiv prosecutor's office has closed a criminal case on child molestation against Kyiv Mayor Advisor Kazbek Bektursunov because of a lack of evidence.
On Tuesday, Kyiv attorney Yevhen Blazhyvsky informed Interfax-Ukraine that the prosecutor’s order was signed after an investigation of the evidence in the case submitted by the police.
“We agreed with the conclusions of the police. In addition, the person who made the charges against Bektursunov refused to testify and withdrew their statement,” the attorney said.
According to Blazhyvsky, a case on blackmailing, which includes an alleged demand for $250,000 from Bektursunov not to make public the details of his private life, has been passed to court.
According to earlier reports, Kyiv prosecutor’s office investigated the legality of the police closing the criminal case on child molestation against Bektursunov.
Bektursunov said that chief editor of an Internet publication and a student of one of Kyiv higher education establishments had attempted to blackmail him, demanding $250,000 not to reveal details of his private life. Later, a case on child molestation was opened against the mayor’s advisor.
