Kyiv describes the adversary's activity in the Ukrainian special operation area as high, reporting new instances of shelling of the positions of the government forces.
As of 6 p.m. on April 18, the enemy has shelled Ukrainian troops 18 times, the press service of the Ukrainian special operation’s headquarters said in a bulletin, published on its official Facebook page late on Monday.
The situation in the area of Ukraine’s military operation remains difficult, as the number of the shellings of Ukrainian military positions remains at the level of the previous day, the headquarters said. “Anyway, the activity of the adversary has been considered as high,” it said. The adversary continues to use “weapons of large calibers” when firing on the position of the Ukrainian armed forces, the headquarters said.
Fire attacks, with the use of 120mm and 82mm mortars were carried out against the Ukrainian positions near Avdiyivka, Krasnohorivka, Nevelske, Slavne, Taramchuk and Novhorodske, while the Ukrainian positions near Novotroitske, and Berezove, were shelled from conventional artillery pieces of the 122mm caliber, according to the bulletin.
The headquarters claim that the Donbas militants conducted fire along the line of contact, using various systems of grenade launchers, machine guns, as well as small arms.
It was also reported that the militants repeatedly fired grenades targeting the infrastructure of the road checkpoint in Stanytsia Luhanska and the Ukrainian defenses there.
“In order to protect the lives and health of the soldiers in submission, and civilians that found themselves in danger in this area,” commanders of units of the Ukrainian army were forced to give orders three times to open return fire from small arms, the headquarters said.
