You're reading: Kyiv to host first meeting of trade section of Ukraine-EU Association Committee on April 12-13

The first meeting of the section of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee which deals with trade will take place in Kyiv on April 12 and April 13, the committee will put into operation the institutional mechanism of a free trade area between the two countries, the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry reported on April 11.

“The meeting, which will be held on April 12-13, will address the range of issues on the EU-Ukraine agenda in the trade area: the interaction of the parties in the trade area, the implementation of section IV of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the development of relations between Ukraine and the EU with their trading partners,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

The establishment and functioning of the trade committee is envisaged by the provisions of the Association Agreement (Article 465 (4)) between Ukraine and the EU.

“The powers of the committee include the consideration of bilateral trade issues by the parties, as well as the issues of the implementation and functioning of the free trade area with the EU,” the ministry said.

The general structure of the trade committee also provides for the operation of four ad hoc subcommittees: on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, facilitation of customs and trade issues, geographical indications, trade and sustainable development.
