Kyiv, July 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The number of officially registered unemployed Ukrainians in January through June 2009 fell by 23%, or by about 205,000 people, Labor and Social Policy Minister Liudmyla Denisova said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

In June alone, the number of the jobless shrank by
11%, or 81,000 people to 658,000 people registered as of July 7, 2009,
she added.

According to Denisova, by the beginning of June,
wage arrears at state-owned enterprises and organizations declined by
26%, or UAH 76 million, to UAH 212 million as of June 1, 2009. Wage
debts at economically active companies in May decreased by 42% to UAH
81 million as of the beginning of June.

She said delayed wages and salaries were partly
repaid by the companies under the Defense Ministry, the Transport and
Communications Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, and the Industry
Ministry. Wage debts were fully repaid by the companies under the Coal
Ministry and the Fuel and Energy Ministry.
