You're reading: Lawyers: Tymoshenko could be brought to court even on stretchers

The defense team of former Ukrainian Premier and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said she could even be brought to a court session on Wednesday on a stretcher.

"I would like to believe that the court adjourned in order to clarify the inconsistencies in medical records [on the health of Tymoshenko], rather than to physically deliver her here for tomorrow’s session," Tymoshenko’s lawyer, Oleksandr Plakhotniuk, told reporters on Tuesday after a session of Kyiv’s Court of Appeals.

"We do not exclude the possibility that this break [in the court session] was announced in order to bring Yulia Volodymyrivna in any way and in any state for the court hearing to be conducted," the lawyer said.

When asked whether this can be done by force, Plakhtniuk said: "It turns out that it could be by force."

When asked by Interfax-Ukraine, whether Tymoshenko could be brought to the courtroom on a stretcher, a defense lawyer of the former prime minister, Yuriy Sukhov said: "Unfortunately, anything can happen. By the way, the medical certificate that was granted today [on Tuesday] by the prosecutor’s office, along with the fact that Tymoshenko is in a serious condition, also says that she does not need neurosurgical treatment."
