You're reading: Lithuanian, Swedish foreign ministers note progress in reforms in Ukraine

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the foreign ministers of Lithuania and Sweden, Linas Linkevicius and Margot Wallstrom, have met to discuss the ongoing reforms in Ukraine, countering Russian aggression, and the introduction of a free trade area with the European Union.

“Linkevicius and Wallstrom stressed that the issue regarding support for Ukraine is constantly in the spotlight of Vilnius and Stockholm, and they reiterated their willingness to provide further comprehensive assistance in the implementation of democratic reforms as well as in countering Russian aggression. The interlocutors noted the progress in the conduct of reforms in Ukraine and welcomed the Ukrainian government’s determination to continue these reforms,” the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

The ministers also discussed a range of issues related to the launch of a comprehensive and deep free trade area between Ukraine and the EU starting from Jan. 1, 2016, the economic situation in the country, and the prospects of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Yatsenyuk noted the importance of the assistance in social and psychological rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers who participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation, the government’s press service said.
