Nizhyn, October 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine should realize the importance of effective relations with Russia, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

He made the comment at a meeting with students and professors of Nizhyn State University on Monday.

“I’m confident that we should have normal relations
with Russia,” Lytvyn said, adding that Ukraine has the largest trade
volume with Russia.

He also commented on current problems in relations between the two countries.

“The current situation does not correspond to the interests of Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

“We should realize the importance of effective relations in view of pragmatic economic reasons,” Lytvyn said.

The speaker said that Brazil, Russia, India and China would become major centers of influence in the world.

Lytvyn said that these countries would build their
new policies and that Ukraine should understand how it will build its
relations, first and foremost, with Russia.
