You're reading: Lytvyn: state companies mustn’t be privatized in time of crisis

Ukraine's parliamentary speaker, Volodymyr Lytvyn, said he strongly opposes the privatization of Odesa Port-Side Chemical Plant and other state companies during the current economic crisis.

“I am categorically against selling anything in the time of crisis.
I categorically oppose the idea of selling anything under political
agreements,” Lytvyn said at a news conference in Vinnytsia on Monday.

The privatization of Odesa Port-Side Chemical Plant, started by the
Cabinet, was halted by a presidential decree, Lytvyn said. Only the
Constitutional Court can arbitrate in this situation, he added.

“I am categorically against the idea of selling Odesa Port-Side Chemical Plant in general,” he said.

This company brings in “colossal profits. What is the big idea
selling it?” Lytvyn said, noting that he had visited the company on
many occasions.

Lytvyn said a list of properties and organizations, such as
Ukrzaliznytsia, and regional gas and generating companies, which make
Ukraine independent and guarantee its security, must be drawn up and
they must remain in state ownership.
