There will be no armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn told journalists in Kirovohrad on Friday.

Lytvyn said that during his visits to Russia he met with the Russian leadership and he had not noticed any sign of bad feeling.

“I talked personally with the Russian president, prime minister and
parliament speaker. With normal, tolerant relations no disagreements
could occur. Talks should be held in [an atmosphere of] respect for
each other, with mutual understanding, and then there will be no
situations similar to the August statements [exchanged between the
presidents of Ukraine and Russia.] But it is necessary to note the fact
that [such] conflicts only occur among people who are close to each
other. There are no conflicts between strangers, as there is no
dialogue between them,” the Ukrainian speaker said.
