Ukraine won a decisive victory in its war-torn east on Saturday, when pro-Russia rebels fled their stronghold of Sloviansk after a week of heavy bombardment by government forces.
As news of the rebel’s retreat made its way to Kiev, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ordered the country’s flag to be raised above the ravaged separatist bastion, which has been the epicenter of the three-month-long battle for the Donbass, Ukraine’s eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
