The Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense faction has drafted and handed over a document to Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, who is to run for presidency, on cooperation during the presidential election campaign and after it.
This was disclosed MP Oleksandr Tretiakov in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper.
“A corresponding document – an agreement between a candidate running for presidency and the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense faction has already been drawn up. We passed it to the premier last week. The Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense will support Tymoshenko only in exchange for a signature under the agreement on joint action after the election,” Tretiakov said.
Answering a question what issues are stipulated in the accord, he said: “The country’s policy. Europe, NATO. A parliamentary-presidential republic. It gives answers to all key issues. How do we conduct the campaign? What will we do after the elections? What is our vision of the country’s development? How will the cabinet be formed? How will we split the areas of responsibility? What will be our faction engaged in?
He stressed that the agreement between the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense faction and Yulia Tymoshenko is an attempt to make the candidate running for presidency outline her pre-election program in detail.
“We are not interested in being in someone’s favor, we don’t want to be subject to anybody – [the incumbent president Viktor] Yuschenko has taught us a good lesson. There are no more idols. We would like to know the candidate’s plans in detail. Prior to the elections,” he said.
According to Tretiakov, Tymoshenko has already agreed in principle to sign the document.
He also acknowledged that the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense faction has no additional guarantees that the document, which will be signed, will be fulfilled.
“Unfortunately, insurance companies do not work on the political market,” he said. “The only thing is to believe in the words said in public and the signature.”
“And if anything happens – just to look into Yulia Volodymyrivna’s eyes,” he added.
