You're reading: Militants attack Ukrainian army positions in Donbas 57 times in past 24 hours

Kyiv has said militants have opened fire on Ukrainian army positions in Donbas on 57 occasions in the past 24 hours, including 46 times in the Donetsk region.

“Fifty-seven strikes against positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been recorded, including 46 in the Donetsk region and another 11 near the city of Mariupol,” the press center of Kyiv’s army operation in eastern Ukraine reported on its Facebook account on Friday.

Militants fired grenade launchers of various systems and large-caliber machine guns at Ukrainian military positions in the vicinity of Zaitseve, Lozove, Mayorsk, Luhanske, Troitske and Pisky, the press center said.

The militants also used a ZU-23 anti-aircraft system against Ukrainian army positions near Luhanske.

Grenade launchers with different calibers, large-caliber machine guns and small arms were used by militants against Ukrainian army checkpoints near Maryinka, Lebedynske and Pavlopil.

At around 8:00 p.m., militants started to randomly fire mortars, launching six mines against Ukrainian army checkpoints in the vicinity of Opytne. Weapons with “different calibers and large-caliber machine guns” were used against Ukrainian military positions near the Butivka mine, Avdiivka and Peski.

According to the press center, militants’ activity significantly declined after midnight, and only two small arms strikes against Ukrainian army positions near Maryinka and Pisky were recorded.
