National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy has rejected as unacceptable and untrue several statements made by various Ukrainian politicians alleging there is a "catastrophic" situation at the company.
“The company believes that over the past months, certain people in politics and experts have used criticism against NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy to gain “PR-dividends” in favor of this or that candidate prior to the presidential election,” reads a statement issued by the company’s press center on Thursday.
Naftogaz says that aggravating hysteria concerning the state holding is a tactic for using the company in a political confrontation.
“Moreover, many of the critical statements did not follow the principle ‘when you criticize – offer your solution,’ i.e. they did not suggest measures to overcome both actually existing and, in many cases, made-up problems of Naftogaz Ukrainy,” reads the statement.
The company’s press center also said politicians’ statements do real harm to the company’s performance, as they mislead foreign investors and may affect the company’s debt swap process.
“Naftogaz Ukrainy admits that certain political circles are frustrated by the success of the company in restructuring its debt liabilities. The consent by most creditors to Naftogaz’s conditions is evidence that foreign creditors trust the company and its future development,” the document reads.
The company also called on politicians of different ranks to do constructive work aimed at the developing the national oil and gas producer.
Naftogaz is doing its utmost to ensure the company’s stable work, a smooth heating season, and the trouble- and accident-free transit shipment of Russian gas to European consumers during winter,” the statement said.
Naftogaz Ukrainy unites the country’s largest oil and gas producers, it holds monopoly in transit and storage of natural gas in underground storage facilities, as well as in transportation of oil by pipes across Ukraine’s territory.
