NATO has noted positive dynamics in the alliance information campaign in Ukraine.
Head of NATO Outreach Countries Section Michel Duray said this at a Thursday press conference.
He said the Ukrainian situation had changed considerably over the
past seven years. For instance, Ukraine has information about the
alliance it lacked seven to eight years ago. Security debates are held
in various regions of Ukraine, and Ukrainians show interest in them, he
said.
Despite the financial crisis, it is necessary to continue the
information campaign, the official said. In his opinion, the campaign
is not very expensive and its main goal is to achieve consensus amongst
politicians.
It is also important to supply the Ukrainian public with enough
information for holding a referendum, he said, adding that the
referendum results would depend on the information quality.
Meanwhile, head of the Ukrainian Government Secretariat’s
Coordinating Bureau for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Vadym
Triukhan said that it was possible to continue the information campaign
even on the eve of the presidential elections. A number of related
seminars for civil servants were planned in various Ukrainian regions,
he said.
Triukhan also said they had not started an extensive information
campaign for the public. “Positive results can be achieved with
multifaceted efforts of the government. We are optimistic,” he said.
