The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has said that the number of fake UAH 200 banknotes in circulation has grown, and the central bank called on banks in Kharkiv region to strengthen controls over cash processing.
“In January-September 2009 there was a jump in the number of fake
banknotes with a face value of UAH 200 withdrawn from circulation. If
in Q1, 2009, 26 banknotes were found, in Q2, it was 50 banknotes and in
Q3 – 156 banknotes,” reads a letter of the NBU department in Kharkiv
region.
According to the letter, most of the fake banknotes show two types
of falsification, which is evidence of an organized process in their
printing and distribution from two sources.
