Troyeschyna, one of the most popular new residential districts in Kyiv, is finally getting better public transportation.

In an attempt to bring better public transportation to one of the most populous residential districts, the city authorities launched a new electric train service between Troyeshchyna and Petrivka metro station on Sept. 2. Now more than 350,000 residents of the Troyeshchyna district can reach the right bank of the city in just seven minutes at a cost of Hr 1.70. The city train will run in rush hours only, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The route will be serviced by two trains, and the waiting time is expected to be 15 minutes. Each train has six carriages able to transport 1,000 passengers. Additional bus routes from remote parts of Troyeshchyna and Raiduzhniy districts were also launched to bring passengers to the train. Oleksiy Kryvopishyn, head of the Ukrainian state railway company, said the service cost his company Hr 40 million to launch. Municipal authorities said they had plans to launch similar trains connecting other remote residential areas to the metro.
