Public movement Euronastup has started collecting signatures from Ukrainian citizens in support of holding a nationwide referendum on Ukraine's integration with the European Union, a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine has reported.

The campaign started on Independence Square in Kyiv on Tuesday. About 50 activists of the movement set up several dozen tents on the main square of Kyiv and asked people to sign a petition.

The petition says that Ukrainian citizens support Ukraine’s integration with the European Union, demand that the Verkhovna Rada adopt a new democratic law on nationwide referendums, and call for the holding of a nationwide referendum on support for the European course of Ukraine under a new law, as the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) has declared the present law on national referendums to be flawed.

Simultaneously with this campaign, a rally in support of political prisoners was held on Independence Square.
