Health officials in Kyiv have denied reports that Ebola infections have been registered in Ukraine.
“Media reports emerged a few days ago claiming that there were people infected with Ebola among foreign students who had arrived in Ukraine. The Kyiv Health Department and the city sanitary and epidemiological services are authorized to state that this information is untrue,” the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration said on Oct. 27.
Students from Sierra Leone, who arrived at Boryspil Airport on Oct. 23, were screened in compliance with international sanitary regulations, the press service said.
“None of the students had symptoms of the disease. The students’ health will be monitored over the next 21 days, as long as the Ebola incubation period lasts, in Lviv and Sumy, where they study,” it said.
The city health officials urged mass media not to release unconfirmed information in order to avoid panic and social tensions. Information about the epidemiological situation in the city can be obtained from the city health department, they said.
