You're reading: No publicity in Pechersky Court during the gas trial

Judge of Pechersky Court Rodion Kireyev refused to resume live coverage of the trial until the start of witness questioning. The prosecution insisted that the court proceedings are indeed open and public and therefore was opposed to Oleksandr Plakhotnyuk’s motion to let the journalists in.

According to Tymoshenko’s official wevsite, Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes the authorities are doing everything they can to keep the trial over gas agreements from 2009 as closed as possible.

"The judge spent 2 minutes 43 seconds thinking about permitting the trial to be public. He refused. For Yanukovych the publicity of this trial is a judgment," Yulia Tymoshenko wrote on Twitter, commenting on the judge’s rejection to keep the trial open for the public.

It’s very difficult to call the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko public. Every morning journalists attempt to enter the courtroom, but for various reasons Gryphon court police prevent this. After the court decision to ban live broadcast and photo and video recording of the trial, media coverage has been extremely limited.
