DNIPROPETROVSK - By April 15, 2015 the number of prosecutors in Ukraine will be cut from 18,500 to 15,000, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Davit Sakvarelidze has announced.

“According to the law on prosecution agencies, the number of prosecutors will be cut down from 18,500 to 15,000 people by April 15,” Sakvarelidze said while introducing the new prosecutor of Dnipropetrovsk region to the regional prosecutor’s office staff.

According to Sakvarelidze, prosecutors were informed about cuts more than one month ago and the cuts will only affect those who fail to meet new standards.

“The rules have got more stringent, the prosecution system must be cleansed,” Sakvarelidze said.

As reported, the new law on the prosecution agencies of Ukraine will enter into force on April 25, 2015.
