PJSC Odesa port-side chemical plant overnight August 10 into August 11 morning was forced to resort to emergency shutdown, the State Property Fund (SPF) has said, with reference to a letter from plant acting director Oleksandr Fedchun.

“In violation of the instructions of the prime minister, at night from August 10 to August 11, 2016 PJSC Ukrtransgaz sharply reduced natural gas supply to the plant. As a result, to prevent the occurrence of an emergency situation at the explosion hazardous enterprise, the plant was forced to resort to emergency shutdown and cease production,” the letter reads.

At the same time, Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of Naftogaz Ukrainy, stated Odesa port-side plant suspended natural gas consumption on its own. According to the gas company, it was done on the basis of its notice dated August 4 this year, which indicated the counterparty had no confirmed applications for August 2016, and the consumer’s breaching the contract for gas transportation in part of advance payments. Ukrtransgaz added it had sent the notice to the plant on time.

The State Property Fund, holding a 99.57 percent stake in Odesa port-side plant, said the company would continue to work as normal soon. For this purpose two meetings of the plant supervisory council were held at the fund on August 11.
