You're reading: Opposition Bloc’s Vilkul introduced as new mayor at Kryvy Rih city council meeting

At a meeting of the city council of Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region, on Nov. 18 morning, a candidate from the Opposition Bloc party Yuriy Vilkul was introduced as the new mayor elected at the Nov. 15 mayoral election runoff.

The meeting of the city council was closed immediately after the introduction, the Hromadske TV reported on Nov. 18.

Over 3,000 residents of Kryvy Rih protested against Vilkul’s appointment as the mayor on Nov. 17 evening, the TV channel reported.

According to the data published on the website of the Central Election Commission, Vilkul won the second round of mayoral elections in Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region.

His rival, a candidate of the Samopomich Party, Yuriy Myloboh, filed complaints about the violations of the electoral process, and criminal proceedings were launched into these violations.

The gap between the two candidates was 752 votes (0.42 percent of the vote), with Myloboh leading in six out of the seven districts of the city.
