You're reading: Opposition plans to win elections, impeach Yanukovych

The united opposition, in its program entitled "A fair state, an honest government, decent life," has proposed introducing the mechanism for expressing distrust in the president through a referendum and regulating the procedure of his impeachment.

"We will give citizens ample opportunities to influence the government through a referendum. We will introduce the mechanism for expressing distrust in the president through a referendum. We will regulate the procedure of the president’s impeachment. We will provide voters with an opportunity to recall deputies. We will cancel the immunity of deputies and judges," reads the program released by the press service of the Batkivschyna Party on Saturday.

The program was presented at the forum of the united opposition on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv on Saturday. The program is aimed at "bringing the country out of crisis, ensuring the equitable distribution of national wealth, returning Ukraine to the path of European development, providing people with decent living conditions, and subordinating the government to citizens."

"An end will be put to the criminal occupation of Ukraine. We will remove the regime of [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych from power through fair and democratic elections," reads the preamble to the program.

Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk said at the forum that after winning the elections in October 2012, a new democratic majority in parliament would legally formalize the procedure of the president’s impeachment and remove incumbent President Viktor Yanukovych from power.

"The first thing that a new democratic parliament and a new parliamentary majority will do will be the elimination of the Yanukovych monarchy. A new parliament will adopt a law on the procedure of impeachment, and Yanukovych will be the first to be impeached," he said.
