Up to 3,500 people are taking part in a rally organized by Ukraine's Svoboda (Freedom) nationwide party outside the Taras Shevchenko monument in Kyiv.
The demonstrators are holding flags with the party’s symbols, national flags of Ukraine and red and black flags of the UNA-UNSO nationalist organization.
Veterans of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army are participating in the rally as well.
People continue to gather around the Taras Shevchenko monument. They are chanting “Long Live Ukraine!”, “Long Live Our Nation!” and “Death to Our Enemies!”.
More than 1,000 policemen are patrolling the venue of the action.
At the same time, several hundred supporters of the Communist Party of Ukraine, the Russian Bloc party and the Union of Left-Wing Forces are holding a rally in Kyiv’s Independence Square to protest against ongoing events marking the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
A banner with a slogan reading “We Won’t Stand Fascism!” was placed by left-wing force supporters near the Svoboda party’s stage featuring banners with slogans “Bandera is Our Hero!” and “Intercession is Our Holiday!”.
The 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Day of Ukrainian Cossacks is marked in Ukraine on October 14, during the religious holiday of Intercession.
