The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is planning to send around 600 long-term and 60 short-term observers to Ukraine to monitor the country's presidential elections, according to Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine's permanent representative to international organizations.
He said at a briefing on Tuesday that Ukraine had earlier submitted
an invitation to the OSCE to monitor the elections scheduled for
January 17, 2010.
In this connection, an OSCE working group visited Kyiv late in
September and made a preliminary assessment of the processes linked to
the presidential elections.
