Parliament on Oct. 19 passed a measure recommending tax authorities to postpone checks on media companies before local elections on Oct. 31. Some 364 deputies voted in favor of the bill, which Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn said would be published tomorrow in the Holos Ukrainy government newspaper, and thus become official.
There recommended posponement is less than two weeks.
Lawmakers also recommended that the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine cancel planned checks of all radio organizations during the election campaign, and that the Cabinet of Ministers take measures to stop checks of the mass media by agencies of the executive branch during this period.
