MPs should vote for bills on increasing social benefits by a show of hands, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.
“If they [Regions Party MPs] call for the protection of the public
and for a rise in the living wage and the minimum wage, I think it will
be right if all MPs, as required by Article 84 of the Constitution of
Ukraine, publicly express their views on this issue [vote in a show of
hands],” he said at a briefing on Tuesday.
Lytvyn said that Wednesday’s morning meeting of parliament would
open without the holding of a conciliatory council meeting, if Regions
Party MPs don’t block the parliament’s rostrum.
He also commented on whether MPs would vote in a show of hands at a meeting on Wednesday.
“This decision has not been cancelled, and moreover, I think that we should put an end to this issue and for all,” Lytvyn said.
He also said that the conclusion could be drawn from Tuesday’s
meeting of parliament that nobody actually wants to take a decision to
increase social standards.
