Pivdenno-Zakhidna railways says there is a collapse threat at the Kyiv-Zhovtnevy station due to unauthorized construction work.
The railways’ press service said that at 1902 on August 25 an
excavator brought the contact-line supporting structure down and it
fell on the rails damaging the electricity transmission line. Train
traffic was suspended until 0400, August 26.
“The excavator worked to expand a site for the construction of
garages. Due to construction work, the Kyiv-Zhovtnevy station and other
facilities beside it came to be over the lin that appeared as the earth
bank was undermined,” a press release reads.
According to the press release, at any time the construction work
may cause soil sliding together with rails, trains transporting
passengers or dangerous cargos.
The press release reads that the Veteran garage cooperative is
performing the construction work in spite of the fact it does not have
any legal grounds to do this.
