The gaining of Ukraine's independence in 1991 is positively viewed by over half of Ukrainian citizens (56.7%), according to a survey carried out by the Gorshenin Institute of Management Issues on August 10-18, 2009.
A total of 2,000 respondents aged over 18 from 160
villages and towns in Ukraine participated in the survey. The poll’s
margin of error does not exceed 2.2%.
Some 19.8% of those polled said they felt neutral
about this event and 19.5% said they viewed this event negatively,
whereas 4% were undecided.
Ukraine’s rejection of nuclear weapons is positively
viewed by 45.5% of citizens, 23.9% feel negative about this fact and
22.9% are neutral about it, whereas 7.7% of respondents were undecided.
Half of Ukrainians (50.9%) said they felt negative
about the Orange Revolution in 2004, one in five Ukrainians (21.5%)
said they viewed this event positively, 22.8% said they felt neutral
about this historical event, and 4.9% were undecided.
Over half of Ukrainians (59.4%) praised the
reception by Ukraine of the right to host the Euro 2012 European
Football Championship, nearly a fourth of respondents (24.5%) expressed
neutral views about this fact, 8.3% viewed the event negatively, and
7.9% failed to answer.
