You're reading: Poll: Over half of Ukrainians against idea of declaring state of emergency to tackle crisis

Most Ukrainian citizens (56.5%) are against the idea of declaring a state of emergency in the country in order to tackle the consequences of the economic crisis, according to a survey carried out by the Gorshenin Institute of Management Issues on August 10-18.

A total of 2,000 respondents aged over 18 from 160
population centers in Ukraine participated in the survey. The poll’s
margin of error does not exceed 2.2%.

Some 25.4% of those polled said they would most
likely reject the idea of declaring a state of emergency in the
country, and 31.1% said they would definitely reject this idea.

Some 18.6% of respondents said they would support
this idea, including 12% of those who will definitely support it, and
16.6% of those who will most likely support this idea, whereas 15.1%
were undecided.

The economic crisis is the most important problem
for Ukraine is the eyes of 64.3% of citizens, whereas such indicators
of economic stability as the “social protection of citizens” and the
“payment of wages and pensions” are of great concern only for 24.7% and
24.6% of Ukrainians respectively.

According to the poll, 42.5% of respondents are
worried about political instability, 24.5% about healthcare, 21.8%
about Ukraine’s relations with Russia, and 19.9% about corruption.
