Lack of finances have delayed the completion of Teremky metro station until the end of May, but the station will certainly open on Independence Day on August 24, Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov has said.
"There really were plans [to commission Teremky on Kyiv City Day], but because of irregular financing we had to reconsider [the plans]," he said in an interview with Segodnya newspaper posted on Friday.
Popov said that the state had allocated UAH 96 million to help complete the station.
“Now, when the city received a targeted tranche from the state treasury of UAH 96 million, the budget for this building was completely covered. I think that we won’t have to shift the terms of commissioning, and by Independence Day Kyiv’s citizens will get a new subway station,” the head of Kyiv administration said.
He also said that the commissioning of Teremky means the completion of the building of the Kurenivsko-Chervonoarmiyska metro line.
“This will be the sixth metro station built in the last two-and-a-half years. I have to say that metro stations have never been built at such speed in Kyiv with such tempos, even in Soviet times,” he said.
As reported, in December 2010 three metro stations, Demiyivska, Holosiyivska and Vasylkivska opened in Kyiv. Their construction started in July 2005, but was delayed because of a lack of funds.
Two more stations were opened in December 2011 and October 2012 : Vystavkovy Tsentr (Exhibition Center), and Ipodrom.
