President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said it is necessary to take urgent measures to neutralize threats to the security of Ukraine given the increased intervention of Russia.

“We must take urgent measures to counteract and neutralize threats in the state security sector under the conditions of stirring up of external intervention from Russia, its interference in the domestic affairs of Ukraine, its staging of scenarios meant to destabilize the public and political situation using criminal, ethno-national and social-economic factors,” Poroshenko said while opening a National Security and Defense Council meeting.

According to the presidential press service, Poroshenko said that Russia has been very active for the last two weeks.

He went on to say that the armed conflicts in Mukacheve, Zakarpattia Oblast, demonstrate the need for updating and strengthening state administrations and the local offices of the Interior Ministry, State Border Service, State Fiscal Service, and the Security Service of Ukraine in Zakarpattia.

“Relevant staff changes and conclusions have been made. This is just the beginning,” Poroshenko said.

He also said that he expected further suggestions on restoring order in the oblast from the new head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal.

“Moskal has complete carte blanche and may contact me 24/7,” Poroshenko said.
