President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed an anti-discrimination amendment to the Labor Code of Ukraine into law.
According to Verkhovna Rada website, bill No.3442 signed was submitted with the president’s signature on Nov. 23.
The bill is included in the EU visa-free package adopted by the parliament on Nov. 12.
When the amendments come into force, Article 21 “Equality of Labor Rights of Citizens of Ukraine” in the Labor Code will read as follows:
“Any discrimination in employment is prohibited, in particular, breaching the principle of equality of rights and opportunities, as is the direct or indirect restriction of the rights of employees based on race, color, political, religious and other beliefs, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, social and foreign origin, age, health, disability, suspicion or presence of HIV/AIDS, family and property status, family responsibilities, place of residence, membership in trade unions or other associations of citizens, participation in a strike, treatment or intention to address the court or other authorities to protect their rights and to provide support to workers to protect their rights, linguistic or other grounds not related to the nature of the work or the conditions of its execution.”
