The recorded telephone conversations between the employees of Chornobyl nuclear plant and the dispatchers at local emergency services offer an insight into the first minutes after the explosion at the plant's fourth reactor on April 26, 1986.

The dispatcher at the emergency service calls Chornobyl nuclear power plant a few minutes after the explosion to ask what is burning there. She was told there was “an explosion on the roof of the main building between the third and fourth reactors.”

The woman then proceeds to call the local firefighting departments and order them to dispatch brigades to the nuclear plant.
