Rivne, August 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The gas price for the population will not rise, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.
“There won’t be any increase in the gas [price] for the population,” she said during her working visit to Rivne region on Tuesday.
Tymoshenko said that the Cabinet of Ministers would not allow an economic default and a delay with the payment of pensions.
As reported, the International Monetary Fund said in a press release on July 10 that the Ukrainian authorities had committed to quarterly increases in gas tariffs, complemented by an effective social safety net.
The National Electricity Regulatory Commission said on July 24 that the gas price would grow by 20% for the population from September 1 and for municipally owned heat supplying companies from October 1, 2009.
