You're reading: President: cabinet should provide for efficient work of state committee for financial monitoring

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has paid attention of Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko to the necessity to take efficient steps to provide for fruitful work of the state committee for financial monitoring, the president's press service reported, referring to his letter sent to the prime minister.

Yushchenko said that Prosecutor General’s Office checks conducted
with involvement of other law-enforcement bodies confirm that recently
the number of shadow financial deals in the national economy grew.

Cases of receiving sums worth billions hryvnias via exports scams,
smuggling of goods, which are legalized via various financial scheme,
are often registered.

Prosecutor General’s Office said that the improper fulfillment of
its functions by the state committee for financial monitoring evokes
the stir up of criminal financial activities. There are no clear
methods for analysis of financial transactions, the president said. The
state committee almost does not cooperate with law-enforcement bodies.
The committee improperly checks information on shady activities of
economic entities submitted by state bodies, and as an example, the
president took the non-implementation of financial monitoring under
several appeals of the state commission for financial service markets
regulation and the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

“I ask to take immediately efficient measures to provide active work
of the state committee for financial monitoring to prevent
money-laundering and inform me on the results,” the president said in
the letter.
